When it comes to luxury midsize SUVs, the Porsche Cayenne is a hard one to beat. With its combination of eye-catching looks, easy-to-drive performance, and hybrid design, the Cayenne is a car that’s beloved by everyone who has owned one.

And, interestingly enough, the Cayenne just reached a major milestone with the production of its one millionth vehicle. For comparison’s sake, it’s interesting to note that it took the 911 over 50 years to do what the Cayenne was able to do in just 18 years. That’s why in today’s blog, we’re celebrating everything there is to love about the Porsche Cayenne. Keep reading to learn more, or schedule your Porsche service with HOUSE Automotive today.

The Origins of the Cayenne

Almost two decades ago, the Porsche Cayenne made its first appearance at the Paris International Motor Show. Because Porsche had only made sports cars in the past, the sudden introduction of an SUV was surprising, and it was met with mixed reactions.

Of course, it didn’t take long for people to come around thanks to the Cayenne’s sharp looks, top-of-the-line features, and cutting-edge technology that’s helped to push the industry forward over the past 18 years. In fact, the Cayenne was destined to become Porsche’s most sought-after model for a period of time as people all across the world took more interest in SUV ownership. So what made it such a success? According to Porsche Newsroom, it was its “powerful with dynamic driving features and suitable for all types of terrain.” In other words, “A five-seater family car with typical Porsche DNA.”

Equally important to the success of the Cayenne? “Hybridisation,” according to Hans-Jürgen Wöhler, a head of Porsche’s SUV line. “Hybridisation has great significance for us since we brought eight- and six-cylinder engines to market. Our hybrid concept was a major milestone for the Cayenne on its journey to becoming the plug-in-hybrid 2014 with an electric range of more than 30 kilometres.”

The Guinness World Record

After many years of success, the Porsche Cayenne got another boost of publicity when it set a Guinness World Record. That’s right — “Porsche Cayenne tows Air France Airbus A380 to break world record,” a headline on the website for the Guinness Book of World Records reads.

The driver of the particular Cayenne that helped to achieve this milestone (who is also a Porsche technician) noted that Porches “can go a bit beyond what our customers might expect,” mentioning that they “don’t usually go this far to test the limits of our cars, but I think today we got pretty close.”
